thoroughbred racing

This weekend fans of thoroughbred racing witnessed a major upset as "Big Brown" failed to win the Belmont Stakes even though this thoroughbred racing horse was heavily favored to easily win, and thus be the first horse to capture the "Triple Crown" of thoroughbred racing since 1978. According to his jockey, Big Brown "just ran out of steam coming off the final turn." Da' Tara won the race going wire to wire in the lead despite being a 38-1 long shot to win. I would like to have bet a few thousand dollars on this horse! The Belmont Stakes is the third thoroughbred racing event in the Triple Crown and the last horse to win this elusive title was "Affirmed" in 1978. This horse racing track is the longest, at one and a half miles, of the three thoroughbred racing tracks included in the Triple Crown and on this day the temperature was in the high eighties with high humidity. Many fans feel this affected the performance of Big Brown and despite his loss, this is a great thoroughbred racing horse.
