Many people lost money at this year’s Triple Crown after making “sure-thing” bets on Big Brown. What spectators got instead of a winner was a horse that did nothing more then slow down the rest of the competition. Horse racing tracks never thought Da’ Tara was going to take the Triple Crown but it has been a sports year of underdog stories.

Thoroughbred racing hinges on position. Starting on the outside allows a fast horse to sprint into the hole shot with the least amount of resistance. Big Brown was not so lucky during his appearance and was boxed out.
The embarrassing showing brought a smile to my face as people who I was watching the Triple Crown with preached about how certain they were Brown was going to win. Handicapping took on a completely new meaning after that race.
