Horse Race has a Better Product than Slots or the LottoIt is time for horse racing to stop whining about not getting slots, get aggressive and compete.
Horse racing can destroy the lotto and I’m sure put a dent into slots with inventive wagers that benefit every race track, not just So. California or occasionally New York when they have big pick 6 carryovers.
How about an “Instant Millionaire” wager with the same odds as the Lotto? If you have to pick a 10- horse field in order it has the about same odds as the Lotto 3,628,800 to 1. 11-horses. 39,916,800 to 1. 12-horses 479,001,600 to 1. …….how about picking the 20-horse derby field in order 2,432,902,008,176,640,000 to 1
How would this hurt the Lotto?
First of all it is a much better payoff than the Lotto and is based on a sporting event, plus involves some elements of skill. The Lotto pays back 53% of the money wagered over 20 years…horse tracks would be able to pay back 75% same day. That is at least 22% bigger payoffs than the lotto, without considering the 20 year wait. Also, if linked throughout the nation horse racing could have an “Instant Millionaire” race at every track at least once or twice a day, with a progressive jackpot that could easily reach $10 million dollars in one day (it could reach $20 million on Breeders' Cup Day by itself), with any track that can field a 12 to 14 horse field eligible to participate. How many extra people would show up at the track if they had a chance to win $60 to $100 million dollars instead of the current $1,300 or less Pick 6 carryovers when and if available at 95% of the tracks? Plus maybe give a bonus if someone hits the pool on-track where the current “Instant Millionaire” is being run.
We can beat the Lotto and slots on the square. We have a better product and better odds.
